An antibiotic produced by the fermentation of Amycolatopsis orientalis subsp. lurida, comprising. Two substances; ristocetin A and ristocetin B; although no longer used, it causes platelet agglutination and blood coagulation and wasused to assay those functions.

Ristocetin A is a glycopeptide antibiotic used in the diagnosis of the blood disorder, von Willebrand's disease. Ristocetin A is also antibacterial.

Solublility: in aqueous solutions at an acidic pH.
